WWE Breaking Point
I can’t fault World Wrestling Entertainment for trying something new or at least a little different from their usual flow. I can not fault them for wanting to try and expand their dollars and sense and fan entertainment with fresh ideas. Although, having a pay-per-view where the main events can only end by submission or saying “I Quit” is not entirely new, it is a breath of fresh air…at least on paper. I can not say that I don’t want the WWE product because I do…every single week…multiple times a week. However, that does not mean I feel the promotion is doing everything perfectly or booking matches in a manner I find favorable. That said, I want to talk about Breaking Point on a match by match basis.
Match #1
WWE Unified Tag Team Title Match: Chris Jericho and Big Show (C) vs MVP and Mark Henry
I think the thought behind placing this match firs on the card was to get things jumping in a nice way for the fans. As hot as Jerichi and Big Show has been over the last few months, this seems like very solid planning. MVP and Mark Henry have both sort of been on a role individually lately, so it was also as sound decision to put them together…at least for this ppv. I like the idea behind the Unified Tag Titles and I love the fact that the champs get to appear on both shows. I think Jericho and Big Show work very, very well together as a unit and make a super power in the WWE tag division. Well, they would be even greater if there was any sort of tag division to speak off in WWE. Anyway, onto the match: For what it was and for what the match tried to accomplice, it certainly was not bad. On the other hand, it was not exactly great either. Being the professionals that Jericho and Big Show are, I expected them to lead this match into something almost epic but that did not happen. Just as it was getting really hot, it was over. I mean, I was glad to see the champs retain, but it seems almost like a slow burn that went no where. Granted, this does open the door for at lest one or two more big matches between these four individuals. It was a nice way to open up the show.
Match # 2
United States Title Match: Kofi Kingston (C) vs The Miz
Even as a last night edition to the card, this match worked very well for me. Since over the last few weeks The Miz has ben on the hunt for Kofi and the US title. Truthfully, I like this fued and I like the fact that two young stars can be showcased on ppv and have a pretty good match. I like how The Miz is being booked these days, despite the fact that he tends to lose a great deal to top names. I love Kofi and I love the fact that he has gold right now. I feel, barring some sort of injury or complete lack of creative fuel for him, Kingston has a very bright future in WWE. This match was fast paced and back and forth for the duration…I love to see matches like this in the current state of WWE because it shows that not every single things is rules by the main players. It gives room to find something new and fresh and allows younger fans to gain heroes and villains that have not been around for years and years. I feel this match should’ve been a little higher on the card but I was just happy to see it. I felt that Kofi would retain and he did, but it was a great battle. I’m sure there will be more Kingston vs The Miz in the future.
Match # 3
Submissions Count Anywhere Match: DX vs Legacy
I feel this match took place for two reasons. The first being to simply give the crowd what they wanted by taking the match all over the building, into the crowd, back stage, and every where in between. The second reason, quite simply to put Legacy over. Seriously…after losing to DX at Summerslam it just made sense to give the young team the nod. And to be one hundred percent honest, I am glad they did. The match was your typical rampage all over the place with weapons thrown in for good measure. It was nice to see the action taken out of the ring for more than a minute or two before going back in. I know the ring is there for a reason but it’s nice to switch things up just a little every so often. I felt the finish was brilliant and made perfect sense in every fashion. To have legacy isolate Shawn Michaels and give him a double submission was so wonderful. This was a nice moment for the young team, especially on ppv.
Match # 4
Singapore Cane Match: Kane vs The Great Khali
What is there to say about this match really? Two months in a row…two ppv’s in a row…there has been a Kane vs Khali match. I have always liked Kane, even when the character first emerged. I can take or leave Khali: He is too damn big and immobile to feud with anyone that is not also a giant. That fact limits things quite a bit really. There was lots of caning and power moves. Kane won with a very poor looking chokeslam. I am going to move on now.
Match # 5
ECW Title Match: Christian (C) vs William Regal
As much as I love Christian, I felt in my bones that he would leave this match without the gold. Having Kozlov and Jackson leave ringside opened up a wider field for this match in my view. This gave Christian an opportunity to build momentum without constant outside interference. Also, this gave Regal plenty of room to be the veteran he has been for quite some time now. This was a solid match. The only problem I had with it was the length of the match orm start to finish. Granted, it was longer than the 8 second Summer slam match, but I felt these guys have earned a little more time to tell their story. Overall, I was happy with the finish and the entire match. It doesn;t hurt my feeling at all that Christian actually retained his title…cleanly. I love it.
Match # 6
“I Quit” match for the WWE Title: Randy Orton (C) vs John Cena
My initial perception of this match was not very good. I didn’t really understand why there needed to be two title matches in two months on two ppvs…but I Was wrong. I freely admit it. I feel that this match sort of stole the show up until that point. Having Cena handcuffed and caning him in the ribs over and over was brutal as hell. It made Orton look like the crazy man they have been hoping to make him for some time. It made Cena look more like Superman than ever before…in the best way possible. I feel it worked so well because he was out of his element in so many ways: Orton led the way through stormy waters and everything worked out just fine. I know there are more than a few fans that have no love for John Cena…especially die hard fans that really care about the business. I know there plenty of fans that would not care if he never had another title run or even disappeared from tv forever. Whether you love or hate the guy, he’s good for rating and WWE right now. Orton has had a great run as champion since Backlash so it feel like it was a good time to mix things up a bit. I like the match and I like the finish. I think this could have been the last match on the card but it did just fine where it was in the line-up.
Match # 7
Submission Match for The World Heavyweight Title: CM Punk (C) vs The Undertaker
Probably like most everyone else that watch the show, I wanted to see the return of the Undertake to pay-per-view. I’m sure quite a few people decided to buy it simply because the Undertaker was back and wanted to see him dish out destruction. Before seeing the match, I tried to look at every angle and dissect every outcome…simply put, I knew the Undertaker would not tap. Never has and never will as far as I am concerned. At the same time, I felt it was way too soon for Punk to drop the belt…even to The Dead Man. As far as matches go, it could’ve been a little better. Did it need to be? Not at all. There reason is this: For whatever unknown reason, they decided it would be a good idea to replicate the Montreal Screw Job. As if one time was not enough, you know, we really need another one. I can not imagine why anyone would think such a thing was a good idea, even in a story line. Even if planned, it is quite tasteless to say the least. I know it is all for entertainment, but that sort of garbage bothers me to my very core because of how the first one went down. I, nor anyone else, needs to see that type of trash. In my estimation, the legacy of The Undertaker character deserves better than something like that…the fans deserve something much better and far more creative. I love CM Punk as champion and as a heel, but I think this is very wrong. Maybe I am going a little too overboard about this…but that’s how I see it.
Thanks for reading.

Good Review, but I hate the fact that Cena is Champion. Now we get to hear him say “The champ is here” a bunch of times and have shitty matches. Yeah he is good for eight year old ratings, but true fans know why he sucks. Oh well at least I still got smackdown. At least Batista is gone and we don’t have the fucking shoulder block twins as champs.

Good review. I was disappointed that The Hart Dynasty weren’t involved in the PPV. I think it would have been great to have them do a run in during the tag match. What’s a PPV in Montreal without the Hart family? They could have done something really interesting with them and the history of Montreal.
And I thought for sure that William Regal was going to take the ECW title this time around. I’m really disappointed that he didn’t. He and Christian gave a great match. Regal really deserves some recognition for his talent.
Now, for this… this… main event match…
hm. Well, it really wasn’t something I was expecting, that’s for sure. I was sure that Taker wouldn’t be leaving with the gold, I was kind of sure he wouldn’t have tapped. I was right. But I really, never in a million years would have thought they’d try something like this… with Punk and Taker.
My heart has been set on Scott Armstrong turning heel and screwing either Trips or Cena. It made so much sense, it’s been teased, kind of sort of, and it was just perfect! Armstrong is 2nd generation. Of course Legacy would use him to retain their gold and use him as a manager or something. All he had to do was call Cena’s inaudible ‘I Quit’ and BOOM! a real Montreal Screw Job. (Well, kind of. LOL.)
Why on earth would they do a ’screw job’ on Taker? Makes no sense.
My precious Armstrong/Legacy theory was shattered. I’m so disappointed.
And also, just because i’m mad. I HATE that they gave Cena all kinds of time after he won, but The Undertaker and Punk had almost no time at all. A ’screw job’ could have at least had a better build up had their match been a bit longer. It was just too quick.
Great review though.
And LOL @ tcmaddox’s comment about the ’shoulder block twins’.

“True fans,” maddox? I would argue a true fan knows why John Cena is the most valuable commodity in wrestling today. “John Cena sucks” is the new IWC cliché since “Triple H buries everyone” finally died off. Cena personifies today’s WWE, and I don’t think it’s coincidence that they’re having some of their best years ever since he became the torchbearer.

nice review… rofl shoulderblock twins troy?! really?!
yeah they shouldn’t have even thought of replicating that moment in history as far as the montreal deal goes….. thats the state of wwe right now it seems. tna is in talks with hogan right now so tna might actually go out before wwe as sad it is.
